Despite
the news and fear of Sandy, we slept very well so woke up fresh to more news.
More than 13,000 flights were canceled across the U.S. on October 29. Ours
included. Connecticut declared emergency and state roads were closed. Businesses were closed so none of our friends
had work. Storm surge in New York city
and New Jersey flooded streets, tunnels and shut-down the subway lines and
power in many locations. Heavy downpour
with strong wind was felt in Hamden but not to any scary levels. Alok said Water levels in Milford went up and
breached the sandbags damaging some properties. We expected a power outage as
at some point cable TV reported that 60% of Connecticut had power outage.
Sandy made a landfall near New Jersey in the late night and remnants weakened through the night. We could not reschedule the flight anytime early so took the refund and booked an American flight from Harford on 31st. We watched some TV, tried much Telugu food Jo cooked and was just chatting while waiting for the storm to settle. I don’t think any of us were concerned or angry but we did get some calls from California and elsewhere as the media reports and graphics they aired were just scary. We felt stuck and with flight cancelled and the roads closed we were just worried when we will be able to get out of east coast. However, the next day events eased those worries.
It was a lot of fun time for Tara and Shubhang indoors. She was surprised to see the games in iPad that Shubhang engaged her with.
